Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
Title I - Employment Discrimination
Title I of the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) went into effect in 1992. This section of the ADA deals with nondiscrimination requirements for people with disabilities related to employment. The ADA defines a person with a disability as "a person who has a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities; a record of such an impairment; or is regarded as having such an impairment." Any person with a disability who is qualified to do a job with or without reasonable accommodation will not be discriminated against because of their disability.
Self-Identification and Accommodation Request Form
Employees who are disabled can self-identify by completing the forms available through the Office of Equal Opportunity. If you think you need an accommodation to perform the essential functions of your job or a job you are applying for, contact the Office of Equal Opportunity at 313-577-2280, oeo@wayne.edu, or the OEO website. Complete a Request for Accommodation of Disability form which will be reviewed and a determination made whether an accommodation can and should be made.
