The following information and materials are provided during New Hire Orientation.  

DUO two-factor authentication

If you have not already, be sure to set up two-factor authentication (personal security). You will need this to verify your identity when accessing your online accounts. Wayne State University is working with a company called Duo Security for our two-factor authentication solution for employees and faculty. Visit the C&IT website for more information on how to set up two-factor authentication.

Timesheets

If you are eligible for overtime, be sure to enter all hours worked in Web Time Entry. Employees not eligible for overtime need to enter time when they have full-day exceptions to regular hours worked. To access your timesheet, go to Academica > Employee Resources > Employee Self-Service > Time Sheet. A Web Time Entry course is available through Accelerate, WSU's database of online learning resources. To access Accelerate, go to Academica > Employee Resources > Other Resources > Accelerate - Employee Development Tools > click the View the Catalog tab at the top of the page > select Web Time Entry WTE > launch Web Time Entry for General Users (course).

Direct Deposit

We encourage you to enroll in the direct deposit program in order to have your paychecks deposited into a bank account of your choice. Direct deposit is quick, easy, safe, and saves you time from going to the bank! To enroll in the direct deposit program, simply go to Academica > Employee Resources > Employee Self-Service > Other Resources > View Personal Information > select the Employee Tab (at the top of the screen) > Pay Information > Update Direct Deposit. You will need the name of your financial institution, as well as your account number and routing numbers. Benefits

WSU offers a comprehensive and valuable benefits program for our staff and faculty. As a new hire, you have 45 days from your date of hire to elect to participate in the medical/dental/vision and flexible spending account programs. Coverage will start on the first day of the month following the date of hire (if the date of hire is the first of the month, benefits begin on that day). The university will request documentation verifying that any dependents added to the medical, dental and/or vision plans are eligible for coverage. 

We also offer life insurance, retirement savings plans, long-term care, long-term disability, dependent reduced tuition, employee tuition assistance, wellness programs and home/auto insurance discounts. Eligibility for these programs is determined by your employer group. Visit the Total Rewards website for more information.

Life Insurance and Rates

Use the life insurance rates table and example to calculate the per-pay cost for Supplemental Life Insurance(use the tables and examples on this page to calculate the cost of life insurance. To calculate the cost of life insurance for yourself, after reviewing the link above, substitute your age, salary and employee type in the below example to calculate your cost per-pay.

Retirement Savings Plans

WSU offers two retirement savings plans. Enroll in either the 403(b) or 457(b) plans at any time after your date of hire. Each provides value, tax savings, and superior investment options.

OneCard

To get your WSU OneCard without visiting the OneCard Office in the Welcome Center, upload your photo. The OneCard Office will send you your card in the mail.

Parking

All new faculty and staff can elect to pay for parking on campus in any of the following ways:

  1. Purchase a semester pass: Log into our Parking Portal and purchase a pass online. The RFID tag will be mailed to you.
  2. Sign up for pre-tax payroll deduction: Complete the Parking Payroll Deduction Enrollment Form online. The RFID tag will be mailed to you.
  3. Pay per entry: Use your credit card to pay per entry at the visitor rate, or log onto Academica and load money onto your OneCard to pay the Onecard employee rate. To add money to your OneCard, log onto Academica, search for "OneCard Account" and follow the link and instructions for adding money. 

Please note: When you are at the parking gates you need to swipe IN and OUT of the facility with the same card you used to enter, unless you are using the RFID tag, and in that case, the gate arm will automatically raise. If you are having issues at a parking gate, press the intercom button for assistance and the 24/7 Parking Command Center will assist you.
